Execute, analyze, and optimize real-time plant operations and grid dispatch activities. Ensure safe, efficient, and reliable power generation and dispatch. Support operational decision-making, incident analysis, and performance improvement. Operate under the direction of the Operations Manager.

Responsibilities or duties

Operations and Dispatch Execution:

  • Dispatch power according to system technical descriptions and approved procedures.
  • Monitor plant parameters including alarms, meters, charts, and gauges.
  • Execute start-up, shutdown, and switching of generators and equipment.
  • Adjust operational controls based on grid requirements from KPLC.
  • Respond to dispatch instructions and operational directives.

Monitoring, Reporting and Data Management:

  • Conduct routine monitoring of equipment and operational parameters.
  • Detect early signs of malfunction or abnormal operation.
  • Record operational data, alarms, and events in shift logs.
  • Maintain accurate equipment history records.
  • Prepare and distribute operational and dispatch reports.

Maintenance and Engineering Support:

  • Coordinate with maintenance teams during outages.
  • Support implementation of maintenance schedules.
  • Provide input for incident investigations and lessons learned.
  • Assist engineering teams with operational data.

Safety Compliance and Procedures:

  • Comply with Kenyan regulatory requirements and PPA obligations.
  • Follow internal operating procedures and dispatch protocols.
  • Adhere to Work Permit systems and LOTO (Lock-Out/Tag-Out) procedures.
  • Report unsafe conditions, abnormal events, and deviations.
  • Ensure compliance with LTWP HSE policies and Golden Rules.
  • Promote operational safety, availability, and efficiency.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Power Engineering

  • Bachelor's Degree in Production Engineering
  • Related engineering field
  • Recognized institution

Experience needed

Minimum Years:

  • 3 years in relevant power plant operations or dispatch environments

Preferred Experience:

  • Grid-connected generation facilities
