Responsibilities or duties
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail;
- Driving a motor vehicle as authorized;
- Carrying out minor mechanical repairs;
- Recognizing and reporting abnormal operation of the vehicle;
- Security of the vehicle on and off the road;
- Safety of passengers and/or goods therein;
- Maintaining cleanliness of the assigned vehicles;
- Carrying out routine checks on the vehicles cooling, oil, electrical and brake systems, tyre pressure, detecting and reporting malfunctioning of vehicle systems;
- Carrying out minor repairs including oiling and greasing; and
- Maintenance of work tickets for vehicles assigned.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
For appointments to this grade, a candidate must have:
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) minimum mean grade D plain or its equivalent;
- Valid Class BCE driving license free from any endorsement;
- Defensive Driving Certificate from a recognized institution;
- Occupational Trade Test Grade II for drivers;
- First Aid certificate course lasting not less than one (1) week from St John Ambulance or Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized Institution;
- Attended a refresher course for drivers lasting not less than one (1) week within every three (3) years at Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized institution; and
- Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
Experience needed
At least three (3) years’ work experience at the grade of Driver II or in a comparable position in the Public or Private Sector;

Remuneration will be in accordance with NLAS Salary Scale;
Salary Scale: Ksh. 32,932 x 2,030 – 34,962 x 2,031 – 36,993 x 2,031 – 39,024 x 2,031 – 41,055 x 2,031 – 43,086 x 2,031 – 45,117 x 2,031 – 47,148 p.m.
NOTE: NLAS Grades 1, 2 & 3 are on a three-years contract basis, renewable once while the rest are on permanent and pensionable terms

- Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations;
- Certificate of Clearance from Credit Reference Bureau; and
- Clearance Certificate from Higher Education Loans Board or proof of ongoing repayments.
