Job Summary:
The African Fund for Endangered Wildlife Kenya (AFEW) invites qualified and motivated candidates to apply for the position of a Driver. The role will be responsible for providing safe and efficient transportation services, ensuring proper maintenance and care of organizational vehicles, and supporting the Administration Department with various operational and administrative tasks. The successful candidate will possess basic mechanical troubleshooting skills, excellent organizational abilities, and a high level of integrity.
Key Responsibilities of the post
1. Driving and Transport Services
- Safely transport staff, visitors, guests, and authorized personnel as assigned.
- Deliver and collect documents, parcels, supplies, and other items as required.
- Ensure timely pick-up and drop-off of staff and visitors.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, road safety regulations, and organizational transport policies.
- Maintain accurate vehicle movement logs, mileage records, and fuel consumption records.
- Ensure vehicles are clean, presentable, and roadworthy at all times.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections before and after journeys and report any defects promptly.
- Coordinate vehicle servicing schedules and follow up on repairs.
- Ensure all vehicle documents, including insurance certificates, inspection certificates, and licenses, are valid and readily available.
- Respond professionally and courteously when interacting with staff, visitors, suppliers, and stakeholders.
2. Vehicle Maintenance and Mechanical Support
- Perform routine vehicle checks and preventive maintenance.
- Diagnose and identify minor mechanical faults and recommend corrective action.
- Liaise with garages, mechanics, and service providers for repairs and servicing.
- Monitor vehicle servicing schedules and ensure adherence to maintenance plans.
- Track vehicle insurance, inspection certificates, and service records.
- Assist in evaluating repair quotations and maintenance requirements.
- Maintain proper records of vehicle repairs, servicing, and maintenance history.
- Ensure vehicle breakdowns are addressed promptly to minimize operational disruptions.
3. Administrative Support Functions
- Assist the Administration Assistant in running official errands and operational assignments.
- Follow up on business permits, vehicle licenses, insurance renewals, and other statutory compliance requirements.
Academic Qualifications
- Minimum KCSE Certificate (Grade C- and above preferred).
- Certificate or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Motor Vehicle Mechanics, or a related technical field will be an added advantage.
Professional Qualifications
- Valid Kenyan Driving License with classes relevant to organizational vehicle operations.
- Clean driving record with no serious traffic violations.
- Defensive Driving Certification will be an added advantage.
- Basic computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Experience
- Minimum three (3) years of proven driving experience in a reputable organization.
- Demonstrable experience in vehicle maintenance and basic mechanical troubleshooting.
- Experience supporting administrative functions and handling official documentation will be an added advantage.
