JOB SUMMARY:
The Education and Health Programmes Officer is responsible for facilitating access to education and health services for children, youth, caregivers, and community partners. The role focuses on strengthening community capacity, supporting child protection and family care initiatives, promoting education and health outcomes, and collaborating with local authorities and service providers to ensure sustainable community development.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Community Health and Education Development
- Facilitate the formation and development of Community Health and Education Task Forces.
- Organize and facilitate training programs at:
- Individual level
- Family level
- Community level
- Promote community ownership of education and health initiatives.
Programme Planning and Budgeting
- Lead budgeting processes for health and education programme components.
- Support community-level planning and budgeting activities using participatory approaches.
- Identify and leverage local resources and opportunities to address community needs.
Family and Community Development
- Support the development of:
- Individual Family Development Plans
- Community Development Plans
- Ensure plans integrate education and health priorities.
- Facilitate development of emergency preparedness plans related to education and health services.
Education Programme Support
- Conduct regular monitoring visits to:
- Schools
- Tertiary institutions
- Vocational training centers
- Assess:
- Learner performance
- Learning environments
- Class progress
- Educational quality and accessibility
- Promote access to education opportunities for vulnerable children and youth.
- Support girl-child and young mother scholarship initiatives.
- Promote educational opportunities for women and caregivers.
Youth Skills Development
- Collaborate with community partners to:
- Identify eligible youth for vocational training
- Conduct assessments
- Facilitate enrollment into vocational training programs
- Strengthen youth employability and life skills development.
Caregiver Capacity Building
- Organize caregiver training programmes.
- Promote pre-school and after-school support systems.
- Strengthen caregiver participation in child development and education.
Health Programme Support
- Identify children and caregivers requiring health assistance.
- Facilitate access to:
- Immunization services
- Nutrition programs
- Medical care
- Home-based care services
- Organize:
- Nutritional assessments
- Nutrition education sessions
- Medical support groups
- Support HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention campaigns.
Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting
- Monitor programme implementation through:
- Home visits
- Field monitoring
- Data collection activities
- Evaluate programme outcomes and impact.
- Prepare and submit accurate, timely, and compliant progress reports.
- Maintain programme records and documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education:
- Degree in any of the following fields:
- Nursing
- Public Health
- Education
- Rural Development
- Social Sciences
- Natural Sciences
- Related disciplines
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required:
- Minimum two (2) years of experience working in education and health programmes.
Preferred:
- Minimum two (2) years of experience working with:
- Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)
- Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs)
- Community development programs
- Development projects
Additional Advantage:
- Experience in community-based development initiatives.
- Experience supporting vulnerable children, youth, and families.
- Experience in agrifood systems programs is desirable.
