About the Role
Nairobi GTC Industry Limited is seeking a highly experienced Electrical Engineer - I to join our engineering team at the GTC Office Tower in Nairobi. The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and bring at least 10 years of proven industry experience in electrical system design, implementation, and project execution. This role requires immediate availability and offers the opportunity to lead and contribute to major commercial and industrial projects in the region.
Responsibilities
Lead the design and analysis of complex electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, and automation for industrial and commercial applications
Provide technical oversight for power systems including transformers, switchgear, generators, and distribution panels
Program, configure, and troubleshoot advanced PLCs, SCADA systems, and automation platforms
Create and review electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and layouts using AutoCAD, Revit, or similar CAD tools
Apply deep knowledge of power electronics systems (inverters, converters, rectifiers) in high-demand environments
Ensure all systems comply with Kenyan and international electrical codes (NEC, IEC, OSHA, EBK)
Lead risk assessments and enforce comprehensive electrical safety procedures across projects
Provide expertise in designing systems for hazardous environments using explosion-proof or intrinsically safe equipment
Plan, coordinate, and execute electrical projects from concept to commissioning
Lead project teams, allocate tasks, and manage resources to ensure timely project delivery
Coordinate with vendors, procurement teams, and contractors to ensure quality material sourcing and timely execution
Monitor project risks and implement strategic mitigation plans
Troubleshoot complex electrical faults, system failures, and operational inefficiencies
Conduct detailed root cause analysis and provide long-term, cost-effective solutions
Propose system upgrades and continuous improvements to enhance energy efficiency and performance
Clearly present technical information to project stakeholders, management, and clients
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external contractors
Prepare and maintain detailed technical reports, compliance documentation, and system evaluations
Act as a technical advisor in client discussions, offering expert guidance on project requirements and solutions
Ensure high accuracy in designs, installations, and inspections
Lead quality assurance and control procedures to maintain compliance with project and safety standards
Mentor and supervise junior engineers, technicians, and apprentices
Provide training and share knowledge across departments to build team capacity
Preferred Skills & Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution (mandatory)
Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience in electrical engineering, with a strong focus on industrial and commercial systems
Registration with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) and/or Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) is highly preferred
In-depth knowledge of local and international electrical standards and codes
Strong project leadership, communication, and technical skills
Expert-level proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, MATLAB, ETAP, PowerWorld, or similar software
Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for reporting and presentations
Experience with ERP systems for tracking inventory, budgeting, and project workflows
Advanced knowledge of power distribution systems, transformers, switchgear, and generators
Expertise in PLCs, SCADA systems, and industrial automation platforms
Experience with power electronics systems including inverters, converters, and rectifiers
Knowledge of explosion-proof and intrinsically safe equipment for hazardous environments
