Position Summary
St. John Ambulance Kenya is seeking a highly experienced EMS Manager to provide strategic leadership, oversee EMS operations, ensure compliance, and drive departmental growth. The role will be responsible for shaping the overall strategic direction of the Emergency Medical Services Department, strengthening operational systems, and ensuring the delivery of safe, high quality, patient centered emergency care. The EMS Manager will champion best practices, lead a multidisciplinary team, develop and enforce clinical and operational standards, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to enhance service delivery. This position requires a dynamic leader with strong financial acumen, excellent decision making capabilities, and the ability to innovate and expand EMS programs in line with St John Kenya’s mission and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate staffing, scheduling, and performance management.
- Oversee emergency vehicles, medical supplies, and equipment compliance.
- Liaise with the Training and Ambulance Service Committee on business and performance matters.
- Manage ambulance service agreements and contracts.
- Develop and monitor departmental budgets and identify funding opportunities.
- Supervise EMT students during clinicals in collaboration with the course coordinator.
- Investigate contract performance issues in coordination with HR.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Engage with stakeholders to resolve operational issues and improve service delivery.
- Advise the CEO on EMS-related matters and recommend policy improvements.
- Represent the department in public forums and prepare reports and proposals.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Emergency Medical Care, Nursing, Public Health, Health Management, or a related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant health or emergency services discipline.
- Certified EMT/Paramedic from a recognized and accredited training institution.
- Valid BLS, ACLS, and First Aid certification.
- Minimum of 10 years’ progressive experience in Emergency Medical Services, including at least 5 years in a senior management or leadership role.
- Demonstrated leadership, strategic planning, communication, and decision‑making skills.
