The Opportunity
We are looking for an Engineering Manager to join our Engineering Team. As an Engineering Manager you will elevate your team to new levels through superior technical leadership, effective coaching and mentor ship, astute project management and cross-team collaboration, and continuous professionalism. You will be responsible for one of Turnkey Africa most important development teams. You are customer focused, ensuring our customers always have a great experience. You will lead your team through each of these areas and take ownership for their results, elevating your employees and developing Strong relationships across the organization.

We are looking for a strong technical leader and great manager with a keen eye for scalability and quality. This person will balance management responsibilities, with design and
implementation responsibilities. A good candidate will be excited to take on new challenges, be able to implement test strategies and be ready to jump into the details of the test execution.

Key Responsibilities:
• Ensure engineers understand how the work they are doing ladders up to OKRs & wider company goals
• Ensure engineers have the skills needed to support their squad
• Coach engineers career paths and personal growth in a way that lines up with squads goals
• Coach engineers to set personal goals & assist in defining steps to achieve them and Coach engineers to set goals that push them out of their comfort zone and promote growth.
• Deal with squad interpersonal issues,
• Deal with performance issues.
• Be a sponsor for engineers so they have access to growth opportunities they wouldn’t otherwise have on their own
• Ensure agendas/purpose are clear & actions captured.
• Guide the quality & testing strategy on their teams
• Determine squad/team makeup & hiring needs
• Monitor & work to improve squad health & morale

Your Skills and Qualifications
• Experience managing engineers and leading multiple teams
• Experience and a deep interest in leading initiatives for improving engineering culture, values, process, speed, quality, execution, and delivery.
• Experience leading recruiting initiatives, as well as growing and organizing multiple engineering teams.
• A desire to navigate and lead teams through ambiguous situations, tackle complex issues, and align strategy with company priorities,
• A desire to manage managers and manage engineering leads
• A desire to tackle complex issues involving multiple stakeholders
• Experience balancing competing priorities across more than one team

Bonus Points:
• Familiarity with software engineering practices such as OOP, Design Patterns
• Experience with Java frameworks like spring, spring security, Hibernate.
• Familiarity with Functional Hierarchy Diagrams, Entity Relationship models and server model design.
• Ability to apply estimation techniques to software development efforts
• Working knowledge of and ability to assist others in the use of software engineering tools to support process improvement
• Ability to effectively communicate your work with both technical and non-technical peers.
• Exposure to SaaS Cloud Product Development and Micro Services Architectures
