Migori County is a county in the former Nyanza Province of southwestern Kenya. It is located in western Kenya and borders Homa Bay County, Kisii County, Narok, Tanzania and Lake Victoria to the West. The county also borders Uganda via Migingo Island in Lake Victoria.
Responsibilities or duties
- Environmental inspections and environmental incident management;
- Receiving, dispatching and reviewing Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and Environmental Audits (EA) Reports;
- Notification of EIA reports due for reviewing and processing of licenses;
- Receiving and dispatching applications for various Licensing regimes;
- Mobilizing the public to participate in environmental conservation and management;
- Assisting County Governments in developing the necessary capacity for environmental management;
- Coordinating community environmental activities;
- Monitoring the state of terrestrial ecosystems on a regular basis, rapid assessment and inventory of terrestrial ecosystems, creation and updating of environmental data bases;
- Collecting and collating information for development of integrated management plans;
- Compiling progress reports;
- Implementing relevant Multi-lateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) and donor funded projects;
- Liaising with lead agencies, NGOs and the public in environmental management of terrestrial ecosystems;
- Implementing programmes to address climate change, air quality and desertification,
- Identifying and verifying appropriate measures to prevent pollution and environmental degradation.
- Performing any other duty as may be delegate from time to time.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- Be a Kenyan Citizen
- Have Bachelor’s degree in any of the following field; Environmental Planning and Management, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Studies, Environmental Science; Biochemistry, Natural Science, Community Development or any other relevant field from a recognized institution;
- Proficiency in computer applications
- Fulfil the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
