Background
The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN's global centre for environmental matters and for the development of the UN Programme of \ Human Settlements (UN-Habitat) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). UNON provides \ administrative, strategic, \ and \ legislative \ support \ services to \ the \ UN \ community \ in \ Kenya \ and \ to \ the \ UN \ Secretariat \ globally. \ The \ internship \ programme \ at \ UNON \ aims \ to \ provide \ an \ opportunity \ for \ students \ to \ gain \ practical \ experience \ in \ an \ international \ organization.
Responsibilities
The intern will be expected to perform the following duties:
- Assist in research and analysis of environmental policies and issues.
- Support the organization of meetings, workshops, and conferences related to environmental affairs.
- Contribute to the preparation of reports, presentations, and other relevant documents.
- Provide administrative support to the Environmental Affairs team.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
To qualify for an internship at UNON, applicants must:
- Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher), related to environmental science, international relations, public administration, or a related field.
- Have completed at least two years of a bachelor's degree programme or equivalent (i.e. completed some relevant part of a degree programme).
- Possess strong research and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of other UN official languages is an asset.
Experience
No prior work experience is required for this internship.
Additional Information
This internship is for a period of three months, with the possibility of extension. Interns receive a stipend to help cover basic living expenses.
