Responsibilities or duties

The Equality & Anti-Discrimination Intern will:

  • Assist in generating an impact report of the Equality & Anti- Discrimination work during the internship period.
  • Implement and report on assigned activities including #HumanIsMyID Alliance work
  • Curate compelling advocacy messages on security accountability and against discrimination in Kenya and liaise with the Communications team for amplification.
  • Support in generation of knowledge products highlighting various issues of discrimination and other violations in Kenya with recommendations for reform.
  • Provide logistical and administrative support for program-related activities and represent the organisation in assigned partner meetings.
  • Supported by the program manager, be the liaison between community members and Amnesty International Kenya.
  • Perform other tasks as may be reasonably

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

ESSENTIAL

  • At least a first degree in law, human rights or social sciences.
  • Excellent research, analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of human rights especially on feminist principles, equality, intersectionality, security accountability and non-discrimination.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and administrative skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Previous experience or familiarity with human rights NGO work is desirable but not required.

DESIRABLE

  • Previous experience volunteering or interning in an NGO or human rights context.
  • Basic understanding of the Kenyan human rights landscape and the functions of civil society.
