Key Responsibilities:
Advisory and representation roles
Risk management; lead risk mitigation efforts by proactively identifying potential ethical risks across the institute and providing guidance on mitigation strategies
Represent ILRI on the IP EBC function and performs all roles required of Center leads under the terms of reference for the CGIAR IP- EBC function
Training and outreach
Regularly update the training materials to address new ethical challenges and to align with current global best practices
Investigations
Supervise external service providers /consultants engaged to support EBC work
Incident management, repository management and reporting:
Custodian of the institutional repository of information on EBC cases.
Perform any other related duties as may be required
Requirements
Professional certifications in ethics, compliance, or governance e.g., the CHS Alliance investigator qualification certificate or equivalent
Experience in developing, implementing, and managing ethics and business conduct programs
Extensive management experience in developing and delivery of ethics awareness programs
Strong communication skills, with experience working in diverse, multicultural teams
Ability to work with limited supervision on large/complex ethics cases
- Provide guidance to staff, senior management and the board on matters related to ethics and business conduct.
- Coordinate the periodic review of ILRI’s ethics and business conduct framework, ensuring relevance and adherence to prevailing laws, regulations, best practices and CGIAR/ industry standards
- Lead risk mitigation efforts by proactively identifying potential ethical risks across the institute and providing guidance on mitigation strategies
- Represent ILRI on the IP EBC function and performs all roles required of Center leads under the terms of reference for the CGIAR IP- EBC function
- Organize and deliver ethics training programs for staff and other stakeholders to raise awareness and foster a culture of integrity/ethical conduct across the institute
- Regularly update the training materials to address new ethical challenges and to align with current global best practices
- Conduct and oversee investigations of ethical breaches, ensuring that all cases are handled fairly, in compliance with applicable legal /regulatory requirements, with timeliness, and confidentiality.
- Supervise external service providers /consultants engaged to support EBC work
- Management and oversight of the established confidential reporting tools/ mechanisms (e.g., ethics hotline) for reporting ethical concerns or violations.
- Custodian of the institutional repository of information on EBC cases.
- Prepare periodical reports and assessments on ethical issues for senior leadership and the Board, offering recommendations for action and improvement.
- Perform any other related duties as may be required

- Experience working in diverse, multicultural teams
- Ability to work with limited supervision on large/complex ethics cases
- Master’s degree in law, Business Administration, Ethics, Compliance, Human Resources, or a related field.
- Professional certifications in ethics, compliance, or governance e.g., the CHS Alliance investigator qualification certificate or equivalent
- 10 years of working experience in the ethics, compliance, risk management or investigations field in a development or international organization, preferably in sub-Saharan Africa.
- Experience in developing, implementing, and managing ethics and business conduct programs
- Extensive experience in managing ethics-related investigations, handling sensitive cases
- Extensive management experience in developing and delivery of ethics awareness programs
- Proven experience in carrying out investigations on staff ethical conduct matters e.g., for SEAH cases
- Strong communication skills, with experience working in diverse, multicultural teams
- Ability to work with limited supervision on large/complex ethics cases
