About Karura Community Centre
Karura Community Centre is a registered non-governmental organisation registered in Kenya and operating in Nairobi and Kiambu Counties. For over a decade, the Centre has delivered sustained community impact through an integrated program spanning educational scholarship and mentorship, community outreach and health, youth support and life skills, social rehabilitation and reintegration, microenterprise development, and support for the elderly and vulnerable.
The Opportunity
The Centre seeks a visionary non-profit leader to serve as Executive Director. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Centre Director will hold overall management responsibility for all Centre programs, advance the Centre’s mission, capability, and impact.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership and Strategic Direction
- Working with the Board, identify and develop long-term strategic goals and articulate a compelling vision aligned with the Centre’s mission.
- Inspire and lead a collaborative team to achieve the Centre’s mission, fostering a culture of cooperation, accountability, and high performance.
- Analyze and adapt strategies in response to changing circumstances and inform data-driven strategic decision-making.
2. Fundraising and Resource Mobilisation
- Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising and resource mobilisation strategies to secure diversified financial resources.
- Cultivate and steward relationships with donors, grant-making bodies, and funding partners.
3. Program Impact and Effectiveness
- Oversee the design, delivery, monitoring, and evaluation of all Centre programs against overarching impact metrics.
- Promote cross-functional collaboration and integration across program areas.
- Engage volunteers and develop training to enhance volunteer capability.
4. Stakeholder Engagement and Public Awareness
- Serve as the principal focal point for the Centre’s mission, vision, and values in engagement with beneficiaries, partners, donors, and the public.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with diverse stakeholders, including county and national government counterparts.
- Lead public relations and advocacy to enhance the Centre’s visibility and influence.
- Develop and manage the Centre’s budget, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and fiscal responsibility.
- Act as the primary liaison with external auditors and oversee statutory financial submissions.
- Ensure ethical and legal compliance across all aspects of the Centre’s operations, including statutory and NGO regulatory requirements.
- Provide regular and transparent reporting to the Board of Directors.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will demonstrate the following:
Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Community Development, Social Sciences, Theology, Project Management, Public Administration, Non-profit Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline will be added advantage.
- A minimum of seven (7) years senior leadership experience in the non-governmental, non-profit, community development, or faith-based sector, including at least three (3) years in a senior management or executive role with direct accountability for strategy, fundraising, and team leadership.
- Demonstrated track record of successful fundraising, donor cultivation and resource mobilization.
- Strong financial and budgeting acumen, including experience with donor reporting, audits, and statutory compliance.

- Excellent communication, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement skills.
