Background
Mount Kenya University is inviting applications for External Examiner opportunities coordinated through the Registrar’s Office at Thika Campus. External examiners play an important role in reviewing academic assessments and helping the university maintain consistency, credibility and fairness in its examination processes. They provide independent academic evaluation of examinations, marking standards and student performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Reviewing examination papers and assessment materials.
- Evaluating the suitability of examinations for the relevant academic programmes.
- Reviewing marked scripts and assessment decisions.
- Providing independent observations on academic standards.
- Assessing whether marking has been fair, consistent and appropriate.
- Preparing external examination reports for the university.
- Recommending improvements to assessment methods where necessary.
- Participating in examination board processes when required.
- Supporting the maintenance of academic quality and integrity.
- Reviewing the alignment between course content and examination questions.
- Providing professional feedback to departments and the Registrar’s Office.
- Maintaining confidentiality throughout the examination process.
