Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will perform the following duties:
- Operate tractors and other farm machinery safely and efficiently for land preparation, planting, spraying, ploughing, harrowing, transportation, and other assigned field operations.
- Perform routine maintenance, daily inspections, and basic repairs and calibration on tractors, implements, and related equipment.
- Identify and report mechanical faults and undertake minor repairs where appropriate.
- Ensure all equipment is clean and kept in good working condition.
- Drive institutional vehicles where authorized and required.
- Maintain accurate work logs, fuel records, and maintenance records.
- Follow safety procedures, occupational safety and health standards, and farm operating guidelines.
- Assist with other general farm duties and perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor from time to time.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Possess a minimum of a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a D+ (Plus) or its equivalent.
- Possess a valid Class G (or G12) driving license for tractor operation, and a valid Class B2 or Class B/C driving license (or equivalent) for standard motor vehicles.
- Have at least five (5) years' relevant experience operating farm tractors and agricultural machinery.
- Demonstrate a fair knowledge of motor vehicle/tractor mechanics and basic maintenance.
- Possess a valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
- Be physically fit and capable of working flexible hours during peak seasons and under varying weather conditions.
- Possess strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Have good communication, integrity, discipline, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Added Advantage
- Candidates holding an Artisan or Craft certificate in Agricultural Engineering.
- Applicants who hail from or reside within Cheplanget Ward.
