JOB DESCRIPTION
To provide field-based agronomic and extension support to farmers, focusing on organic production systems and certification requirements to ensure compliance, improved productivity, and sustainable farming practices.
KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide on-site agronomic support on assigned farmers/farms
- Guide farmers on organic production standards and certification requirements
- Support implementation of Internal Control Systems (ICS) for organic certification
- Conduct farm visits, demonstrations and basic farm training sessions
- Monitor farm practices to ensure compliance with organic standards
- Assist farmers with proper record keeping for organic certification
- Identify and recommend approved organic inputs for soil fertility and pest management
- Conduct farm inspections and pre-certification checks
- Collect field data and prepare reports related to crop performance and compliance
- Build and maintain positive relationships with farmers and local stakeholders
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Diploma or Degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Horticulture, Crop Science or related field
- Minimum of two (2) years' experience working as a Field Officer
- Knowledge of organic farming systems and certification standards (e.g., EU, USDA)
- Experience supporting organic-certified or transitioning farms is an added advantage
- Willingness to work in rural areas and travel frequently
