Scope of work

The role of the Fundraising Officer is to source and onboard major donors to advance the Nalafem’s fundraising and awareness raising efforts, and to create and oversee the implementation of the organization’s fundraising strategy. The position is responsible for identifying and building relationships with top prospective foundations, corporations, and individual donors as well as submitting grant proposals.

Duties and responsibilities

Qualifications and skills

At least 5 years of professional experience in the nonprofit development field, and a proven record of securing major contributions from foundations, corporations, and additional sources; experience working for nonprofit(s) of similar scope and size is a plus.

An acute understanding of the data infrastructure required for systematic resource mobilization especially AI powered.

Interpersonal and communications skills and capacity to build excellent relationships with key stakeholders, particularly with high-level individuals in a multinational environment.

Experience researching and securing funds from organizations; access to high net worth databases and subscriptions to capacity research tools is a plus.

Comfort with and/or experience of operating in a lean, start-up environment.

Strong communication in written and speaking English and French is a strong bonus.

Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Develop and implement Nalafem fundraising strategy in line with Nalafem’s key flagship projects and strategy through careful research and analysis;
  • Develop and submit grant proposals ongoing basis
  • Identify best practices and lessons learned directly linked to fundraising activities and contribute to early monitoring and evaluation efforts;
  • Develop accurate benchmarks to guide in the projections.
  • Join all donor meetings
  • Develop list of top foundation and corporate prospects at from local to global levels ;
  • Onboard major donors, and plan, implement, manage, and coordinate the stewardship activities of Nalafem’s major donors;
  • Ensure appropriate and timely follow-up of donors following the receipt of pledges and funds through a professional stewardship AI powered infrastructure;
  • Ensure Nalafem finds sponsors for special events throughout the year such as the fellowship and Nalafem Summit.
  • Develop high quality financial and narrative reports, ensuring consistency, accuracy, clarity and timely submission in compliance with Nalafem as well as donor contractual requirements;
  • Ensure compliance with Nalafem and donor requirements and compliance with the gifts acceptance policy, on the uses of funds, including budget monitoring, amendment requests and timely flagging of problems;
  • Maintain and regularly update Nalafem's donor and partner database, ensuring accurate records of contact details, giving history, and engagement activity;
  • Draft and send quarterly in collaboration with Director, update emails to partners and donors, highlighting key achievements, impact, and funding needs;
