A Grill Master needs skills in grilling techniques, food safety, and knife skills, along with physical stamina and the ability to work under pressure.
Cooking and preparation: Prepare and cook menu items according to recipes and customer orders. Inventory management: Monitor and restock food supplies, including receiving, rotating, and storing ingredients properly. Equipment maintenance: Clean and maintain grills and other kitchen equipment, ensuring they are operational and at the correct temperatures. Quality control: Inspect food quality, from ingredients to the final product, to ensure it meets company and customer standards. Safety and compliance: Adhere to all health, safety, and sanitation regulations, including HACCP plans. Team support: Assist in training new cooks and support other kitchen stations as needed. Customer service: Interact positively with customers and provide excellent service, particularly in roles at events or food trucks.
Grilling techniques: Proficiency with various grilling methods, such as direct and indirect heat, as well as knowledge of different grill types (gas, charcoal, wood-fired). Food safety and sanitation: Strong knowledge of safe food handling, temperature control, and sanitization practices to prevent foodborne illnesses. Food preparation: Expertise in cutting, seasoning, marinating, and portioning meats and vegetables. Cooking and temperature control: Ability to cook food to the correct doneness, monitor internal temperatures, and manage grill heat effectively. Knife skills: Competence in using kitchen knives for chopping, slicing, and dicing ingredients. Communication and teamwork: Ability to communicate effectively with other kitchen staff and provide excellent customer service. Physical stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy items (often up to 40 lbs), and work in hot, smoky environments. Organization: Strong organizational skills to keep a clean, orderly workspace and manage inventory.
Experience: At least one year of experience in a food service role is often required. Certifications: A food handler's certificate is a plus. Physical fitness: Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and withstand prolonged standing in a hot environment. Flexibility: Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays, as these are often the busiest times. Personal attributes: Punctuality, a clean appearance, and the ability to remain calm and efficient under pressure.
