Background
Women’s Empowerment Link (WEL) is a national non-governmental organization committed to advancing women’s rights and promoting gender equality in Kenya. WEL works through advocacy, capacity building, and community empowerment initiatives to address systemic inequalities and empower women and girls to realize their full potential.
Role Overview
The Gender Equality and Youth Programming Advocate will play a crucial role in developing, implementing, and advocating for programs that promote gender equality and empower youth in Kenya. This position requires a passionate and experienced individual with a strong understanding of gender dynamics, youth development, and advocacy strategies.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of gender equality and youth empowerment programs.
- Conduct research and analysis on gender and youth issues to inform program development and advocacy efforts.
- Develop and implement advocacy strategies to influence policy and practice related to gender equality and youth development.
- Build and maintain partnerships with government agencies, civil society organizations, youth groups, and other stakeholders.
- Organize and facilitate workshops, training sessions, and community dialogues on gender equality and youth empowerment.
- Monitor and evaluate program activities, ensuring alignment with project goals and objectives.
- Prepare regular reports on program progress, challenges, and lessons learned.
- Represent WEL in relevant forums, meetings, and conferences.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Gender Studies, Development Studies, Sociology, Social Work, Public Health, or a related field. A Master's degree is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in program management, advocacy, and youth development, preferably within the NGO sector in Kenya.
- Strong understanding of gender equality principles, women's rights, and youth empowerment frameworks.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing advocacy strategies and campaigns.
- Excellent research, analytical, and report writing skills.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in relevant software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Knowledge of the Kenyan context regarding gender and youth issues is essential.

This is a full-time position based in Nairobi, Kenya. WEL offers a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience.
