A General Ledger (GL) Accountant manages an organization's primary financial records, ensuring their accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. Key duties include recording all financial transactions, preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, conducting account analysis, and generating financial reports to provide insights into a company's financial health. They play a vital role in the month-end and year-end close processes and work with other departments to resolve issues and maintain internal controls. 
 
Data Integrity: Ensuring all financial data is accurate, complete, and recorded in compliance with company policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Journal Entries: Preparing and recording journal entries for various transactions, such as accruals, deferrals, and depreciation. Account Reconciliation: Regularly reconciling accounts and bank statements to verify the accuracy of entries and balances. Financial Reporting: Assisting in the preparation of timely and accurate financial statements, including income statements and cash flow reports. Month-End/Year-End Close: Supporting the closing processes by ensuring all necessary adjustments and entries are completed accurately and on schedule. Internal Controls: Collaborating to ensure the effectiveness and compliance of internal controls within the accounting department. Financial Analysis: Analyzing financial information to identify trends, support budgeting and forecasting, and provide insights to management for decision-making.
Technical Proficiency: Strong skills in MS Office, especially Excel, and familiarity with accounting software are essential. Attention to Detail: A meticulous and detail-oriented approach is crucial for maintaining accuracy in financial records. Analytical Skills: The ability to analyze financial data, interpret information, and solve problems is key to the role. Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills are needed to collaborate with internal teams and other departments. Teamwork & Independence: The ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is typically required.
