Position: General Manager, Production - Job Grade KBI 
Job Purpose: 
The General Manager, Production shall be responsible for the overall development, performance and maintenance of the organization's manufacturing activities to meet market demands, in compliance with the national and international regulations to obtain maximum efficiency, quality and service for the organization. The General Manager shall ensure technical management, supervision and control of all production processes and is also responsible for the operationalization of human vaccine production facilities that meet current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and World Health Organization Prequalification and complies with all relevant regulatory requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities: The General Manager, Production shall be expected to provide visionary and transformational leadership in the production division. Further, the successful candidate shall be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
- Develop and manage production plans, budgets and schedules.
 
- Lead and supervise the production team to ensure efficient operations.
 
- Ensure compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and other regulatory requirements.
 
- Manage the supply chain for raw materials, intermediates and finished products.
 
- Oversee the operation, maintenance and validation of production equipment and facilities.
 
- Implement and maintain quality control systems in collaboration with Quality Control and Quality Assurance.
 
- Monitor and analyze production performance metrics and implement improvements.
 
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in production processes and technology.
 
- Prepare and manage production budgets and cost control measures.
 
- Coordinate with R&D, Quality, and other departments to ensure smooth product lifecycle management.
 
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations.
 
- Manage and resolve production-related issues and deviations.
 
- Oversee the implementation of automation and digitalization initiatives in production.
 
- Provide strategic input to the management on production capabilities and expansion.
 
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director General/ Chief Executive Officer.
 
Person Specifications: The ideal candidate should possess:
- Must possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy, Biotechnology, Engineering or a related field from a recognized institution.
 
- Must possess a Master’s Degree in any of the following fields: Pharmaceutical Technology, Engineering, Business Administration, Project Management, Strategic Management or a related field from a recognized institution.
 
- Must have a minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant work experience in a pharmaceutical or BioVax manufacturing environment, five (5) of which must have been at a senior management level.
 
- Must have a minimum cumulative professional experience of five (5) years in a cGMP compliant organization.
 
- Must be registered by a relevant professional body.
 
- Must be a member of a relevant professional body in good standing.
 
- Must possess a Leadership Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
 
- Must be proficient in computer applications.
 
- Must fulfill the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
 
Core Competencies: The Core Competencies considered are: Strategic Leadership and Governance, Technical Expertise, Quality Management, Communication and Collaboration, Change Management and Innovation, and Results Focused.
Terms of Service: The successful applicant will be appointed on a five (5) year contract term and may be eligible for reappointment as per the Kenya BioVax Human Resource Policy and Procedures Manual.
