General Manager – Evangel Publishing House

We are seeking a highly motivated, strategic, and results-driven General Manager to take charge of our publishing house overall business operations. The ideal candidate will provide strategic leadership, drive sales growth, enhance operational efficiency, and manage stakeholder relationships to drive the company’s vision and profitability. The position reports to the Vice Chancellor.

Qualifications and Core Skills

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Publishing, or related social sciences.
  • A Master’s degree (MBA) is an added advantage.
  • At least ten (10) years of professional experience, with at least 5 years at a senior management level, preferably in the publishing or printing industry.
  • In-depth understanding of the Kenyan book market, educational curriculum, and digital publishing trends.
  • Strong financial acumen, exceptional leadership abilities, and excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of emerging global trends in digital education. Strong strategic leadership and organizational skills.
  • Effective team leadership and capacity building skills. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Direction: Develop and implement short, medium, and long-term strategies, business plans, and annual operating budgets.

Operational Management: Oversee daily publishing operations, including editorial, production, sales, and logistics.

Sales & Marketing Growth: Drive revenue growth by initiating innovative marketing strategies, expanding product base, and increasing digital distribution.

Financial Control: Manage the P&L (Profit and Loss), optimize resources, and ensure sustainable financial health.

Stakeholder Relations: Build strong, productive relationships with authors, distributors, the Ministry of Education (for educational publishers), and other stakeholders.

Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and motivate a high-performing team to achieve KPIs and foster a culture of excellence.

Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, copyright laws, and industry standards.
