JOB SUMMARY
The General Paediatrician will provide comprehensive, evidence-based medical care to newborns, infants, children, and adolescents, with a strong focus on patient safety, preventive healthcare, timely diagnosis, and effective treatment.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate sound clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, professionalism, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, child- and family-centred care.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES.
- Conduct comprehensive pediatric consultations, clinical assessments, diagnosis, and management of patients.
- Provide care for common acute and chronic pediatric conditions, including respiratory, gastrointestinal, infectious, nutritional, and developmental disorders.
- Assess, stabilise, and manage pediatric emergencies, with appropriate referral or admission.
- Monitor growth, development, nutrition, and overall wellbeing, while providing preventive care, immunization, screening, and counselling.
- Identify developmental, behavioural, nutritional, and safeguarding concerns and initiate appropriate management or referral.
- Order and interpret investigations, develop individualized treatment plans, and ensure effective communication, follow-up, and continuity of care.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, maintain accurate and confidential records, and ensure appropriate referrals.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement, patient-safety activities, and morbidity and mortality reviews.
- Promote rational use of medicines and healthcare resources while maintaining high standards of clinical care.
- Participate in continuing professional development, mentoring, and relevant hospital training.
- Comply with hospital policies, clinical protocols, ethical and regulatory requirements, and infection-prevention practices.
- Maintain professional and respectful relationships with children, parents, caregivers, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- MBChB or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
- MMed. in Paediatrics or an equivalent postgraduate degree from a recognized institution.
- Registered with KMPDC as a Specialist Paediatrician.
- Valid current Specialist practicing license in General Pediatrics.
- Valid certification in Basic Life Support (BLS); Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or equivalent certification is an advantage.
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in general paediatric practice, preferably in a hospital or multidisciplinary healthcare setting.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic skills, and sound clinical judgment.
- Ability to recognise and manage paediatric emergencies effectively.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and parent/caregiver engagement skills.
- Compassionate, child-friendly approach with strong teamwork and collaboration.
- Commitment to patient safety, quality care, confidentiality, and professionalism
