Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and maintain geospatial databases and data infrastructure.
  • Oversee data acquisition, validation, and integration from various sources (eg, satellite imagery. GPS, surveys)
  • Ensure date quality, security, and compliance with standards
  • Conduct advanced spatial analysis and modelling to support urban planning and land valuation
  • Develop geospatial models for land use, transport networks, environmental impact, and risk assessment
  • Produce high-quality maps, dashboards, and spatial visualizations for internal and external stakeholders
  • Customize GIS tools and applications for specific urban planning needs
  • Lead geospatial components of urban development projects
  • Collaborate with planners, surveyors, valuers, and IT teams to integrate GIS into workflows
  • Train and mentor junior GIS staff and other departments on geospatial tools and data usage
  • Provide technical support and guidance on GIS-related issues,
  • Contribute to the development of geospatial data policies, standards, and strategies
  • Advise on the use of geospatial technologies in urban governance and planning
  • Liaise with government agencies, private sector, and community stakeholders on geospatial initiatives
  • Represent the organization in technical forums and working groups.
  • Performing any other duty as may be delegate from time to time.

Requirements for Appointment

  • Be a Kenyan Citizen
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in GIS, preferably in an urban development context
  • Bachelor's degree in Geospatial Information Systems, Geography, Urban Planning, Surveying, or related field
  • Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS), remote sensing tools, and spatial databases
  • Experience with programming/scripting (e.g.. Python, SQL) and web GIS platforms
  • Fulfils the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution
