Job Purpose

The Grounds Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, cleanliness, and appearance of the hospital’s outdoor environment. The role ensures that all grounds, gardens, walkways, parking areas, and surrounding premises are safe, clean, well-maintained, and present a welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of grounds maintenance staff.
  • Ensure hospital grounds, gardens, lawns, walkways, parking areas, and external facilities are maintained to a high standard.
  • Develop and implement schedules for landscaping, gardening, irrigation, pruning, and general grounds maintenance activities.
  • Monitor and maintain cleanliness of outdoor areas, ensuring litter and debris are promptly removed.
  • Oversee planting, lawn care, and beautification initiatives to enhance the hospital environment.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and safe operation of grounds maintenance equipment and tools.
  • Monitor irrigation systems and ensure efficient use of water resources.
  • Identify and address safety hazards within the hospital grounds and surrounding areas.
  • Coordinate pest and vegetation control activities in collaboration with relevant service providers.
  • Manage inventory of grounds maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Supervise contractors undertaking landscaping, gardening, or external maintenance works where applicable.
  • Prepare reports on grounds maintenance activities, resource requirements, and improvement initiatives.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture, Environmental Management, Landscaping, Agriculture, Facilities Management, or a related field.
  • Diploma in Horticulture, Landscaping, Agriculture, Environmental Management, or a related discipline with relevant supervisory experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, environmental management, or related operations.
  • Previous experience supervising grounds staff or maintenance teams is preferred.
  • Experience managing landscaping projects, irrigation systems, and outdoor maintenance activities.
  • Knowledge of environmental sustainability practices is an added advantage (Preferred).

  • Strong leadership and team supervision skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and basic reporting systems.
  • Knowledge of landscaping, horticulture, and grounds maintenance practices.
