The Head Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of all golf course equipment and machinery to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime. This role oversees workshop operations, schedules preventative maintenance, manages parts inventory and ensures compliance with safety and environmental standards. With strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and attention to detail, they will support course playability and the overall member experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Equipment Maintenance & Repair: Maintain, service, and repair all golf course machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Preventative Maintenance: Develop and oversee a preventative maintenance program to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Workshop & Inventory Management: Manage workshop operations, spare parts, and inventory to support efficient maintenance activities.
- Staff Supervision & Training: Supervise and train staff on proper equipment use, care, and safety procedures.
- Health, Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations within the workshop and on the course.
- Operational Coordination: Collaborate with the Course Superintendent to align equipment readiness with course maintenance schedules.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Trade Test Grade I or II in Motor Vehicle Mechanics (or equivalent certification in agricultural/turf equipment maintenance), with proven ability to service and repair golf course machinery such as mowers, tractors, irrigation pumps, and utility vehicles.
- Minimum 5 years' hands-on experience in equipment maintenance, preferably within a golf club, sports facility, or hospitality environment.
- Valid Driving License
- Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and supervise workshop staff while promoting a culture of safety and efficiency.
- Strong troubleshooting skills, ability to work under pressure, and commitment to ensuring uninterrupted operations.
- Knowledge of occupational safety standards and environmental regulations relevant to mechanical operations in the hospitality sector.
