Position Summary
Shanta Gold Kenya Limited is seeking to recruit a competent and experienced Hydrogeologist to support the Environmental Department at the West Kenya Project. The successful candidate will play a key role in groundwater assessment, monitoring, analysis, and reporting to support environmental compliance and responsible mining operations. The role is critical in strengthening environmental baseline data, monitoring water quality systems, and supporting the management of environmental risks associated with mining activities, including tailings storage facilities, waste rock dumps, and climate-related impacts.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct hydrogeological assessments, investigations, and groundwater studies.
- Develop, implement, and maintain groundwater and surface water monitoring programs.
- Monitor and analyse water quality data from boreholes, wells, springs, and other monitoring points.
- Assess groundwater flow systems and potential impacts of mining activities on water resources.
- Support environmental baseline studies and environmental compliance requirements.
- Prepare technical reports, data analysis, and recommendations for management and regulatory submissions.
- Assist in identifying and mitigating risks related to potential acid mine drainage, seepage, and contamination.
- Collaborate with environmental, geology, and project teams to support responsible mining practices.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, company standards, and good international industry practices.
- Support stakeholder engagements and technical discussions related to water resource management where required.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in hydrogeology, preferably within mining, infrastructure, or large-scale development projects.
- Experience in groundwater monitoring, water quality analysis, and hydrogeological modelling.
- Knowledge of environmental management systems and regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency in data analysis, report writing, and interpretation of hydrogeological data.
- Strong understanding of groundwater contamination risks and mitigation measures.
- Membership in a relevant professional body will be an added advantage.
