Role Description

The role involves preparing steel surfaces through cleaning, sanding, blasting, and masking to ensure proper adhesion of protective coatings. The applicator will mix and apply industrial paints and coatings using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment in accordance with technical specifications and safety standards. Day-to-day tasks include reading and interpreting work orders and drawings, monitoring coating thickness and finish quality, and documenting completed work. The role also requires maintaining equipment, following strict health and safety procedures, and collaborating with fabrication and quality control teams to meet project deadlines.

Qualifications

• Strong skills in surface preparation, including cleaning, sanding, and abrasive blasting for steel structures.
• Ability to accurately mix, apply, and cure industrial protective coatings using manual and spray application methods.
• Experience reading technical drawings, work orders, and manufacturer specifications for coating systems.
• Knowledge of safety practices related to coatings, including PPE use, handling of chemicals, ventilation, and safe equipment operation.
• Attention to detail in inspecting coating quality, measuring film thickness, and identifying defects such as runs, pinholes, or poor adhesion.
• Basic mechanical aptitude for operating and maintaining spray guns, compressors, and related application tools.
• Ability to work on-site in an industrial environment, including standing for long periods, working at heights, and handling moderate physical tasks.
• Prior experience as a painter or coatings applicator in steel fabrication, construction, or industrial environments is an advantage.
• Vocational training or certification in industrial painting, coatings application, or a related trade is preferred.
• Reliable work ethic, strong time management skills, and the ability to work effectively in a diverse team.
