Responsibilities or duties
The Infection Prevention Officer will provide specialist Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) support across CTC by implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving infection control practices. The role focuses on surveillance, staff training, outbreak management, and ensuring compliance with national guidelines and hospital policies to promote a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Nursing, Medical Laboratory Sciences, or related field. Relevant professional registration (e.g., KMLTTB or applicable regulatory body).
Experience needed
Minimum 3 years’ experience in Infection Prevention & Control.
- Provide expert guidance on infection prevention and clinical management of infectious patients
- Interpret microbiological and epidemiological data to inform care planning and interventions
- Advise on patient placement to minimize infection risks in collaboration with clinical teams
- Support safe handling of hazardous/biological materials, including clinical waste and spillages
- Participate in outbreak investigations and implement corrective and preventive measures
- Work with bed management teams to ensure appropriate isolation and cohorting of patients
- Promote adherence to national IPC guidelines across all departments
- Monitor implementation of standard precautions and infection control protocols
- Conduct IPC audits, surveillance, and continuous quality improvement initiatives
- Ensure availability and proper use of PPE and infection prevention supplies
- Support development and review of IPC policies, procedures, and guidelines
- Monitor infection control practices across clinical and non-clinical areas (e.g., housekeeping, waste management, sterilization, food services)
- Organize and deliver IPC orientation and continuous training for staff
- Provide on-the-job coaching through ward visits and engagement with teams
- Promote awareness and education for staff, patients, and visitors
- Collect, analyze, and interpret infection control data
- Prepare and present monthly IPC reports to relevant committees
- Maintain accurate records and support evidence-based decision-making
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient safety
- Participate in quality improvement and research initiatives
- Perform any other duties as assigned
