INFORMATION SCIENTISTS

12.EXT/KMF/TEMP/12 – Information Science (2 Posts) 

a) Job Specification

The duties and responsibilities of the officer will entail assist in:

  1. Provide professional library and information services;
  2. Assist in the development of library and information services and systems;
  3. Coordinate with other library teams on library and information management projects;
  4. They are responsible for the quality as well as quantity of output and service;
  5. Be responsible for providing training to the support staff;
  6. Arrange necessary materials, resources for getting things done;
  7. Prepare periodical performance of support staff;
  8. Motivate support staff. and supervise jobs and tasks to the support staff of the team members;
  9. Guide and instruct support staff in the team for day-to-day activities; 
  10. Teaching users how to use online resources e.g. e-books, e-journals;
  11. Identifying library technologies and their implementation;
  12. Developing websites, digitizing/converting content;
  13. Technical support, system administration/maintenance, data conversion, data migration, system analysis and testing,
  14. Open-source software development, usability testing, interoperability and digital library technology
  15. Providing reference services to all library users to satisfy their specific information needs;
  16. Cataloguing, bibliographic descriptions, metadata Indexing; and
  17. Technical and quality standards;

b) Person Specification

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have;

  1. Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: - Library Studies, Information Science or other relevant and equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution;
  2. Minimum KCSE C+ (plus) or its equivalent;
  3. Proficiency in computer applications; and

c) Key Competencies and Skills

  1. Interpersonal skills;
  2. Organization skills; 
  3. communication skills; and
  4. Teamwork and Collaboration skills;
