Assistant, Development and Outreach (Americas Initiatives)

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the donor database by updating Americas Initiatives donor and prospect records and information;
  • Draft prospect profiles based on research into individual and foundation prospects;
  • Provide support with developing donor engagement tools, including monthly newsletters; and
  • Perform other responsibilities as may be required.

Qualifications

Education: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is desired. Those currently enrolled in university courses are encouraged to apply.

Experience: One year of relevant work experience is desirable.

Related Skills And Knowledge

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English is required.
  • Prior office or administration experience and proficiency in computer programs including MS Office applications, especially Excel, are required; experience with Salesforce or other donor databases is highly desirable.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to prioritize and work independently as well as function as a member of a team with staff in multiple global locations are required.
  • Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail are required.
  • The ability to work well under pressure and to manage multiple priorities, working effectively toward deadlines is required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a wide variety of audiences, including donors and external partners are required.
  • Basic skills in graphic design are desirable.
  • Strong interest in or experience with human rights issues is desirable.

Senior Counsel, International Justice Program 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Contribute to HRW’s work to champion victims’ access to justice for serious international crimes, including leading work around specific justice goals as well as the broader development of international legal institutions;
  • Carry out and supervise other colleagues in legal research and writing of news releases, opinion pieces, policy papers and reports. Areas of focus may include building partnerships within the international justice movement; national prosecutions of serious international crimes, victims’ rights; defense rights; and reparations proceedings;
  • Design and implement advocacy strategies in line with identified goals, including the preparation of written advocacy materials;
  • Lead in development and implementation of research, advocacy, and communications strategies in areas of responsibility; and
  • Carry out other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: A law degree or an advanced degree in international justice is preferred, an equivalent level of experience and training is required.

Experience: A minimum of seven (7) years of practical experience relevant to international criminal law is required.

Related Skills And Knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge of international criminal law issues and deep commitment to human rights is required.
  • Exceptionally strong research, analytical, writing, editing, and presentation skills are required.
  • Proven track record of first-rate written products and editing experience are required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required; professional competency in additional languages preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within HRW and in a diverse environment, as well as with other organizations in the human rights and international justice movement is required.
  • Management experience, including project management, is preferred.
  • Capacity to appropriately plan and prioritize and to manage multiple, sometimes competing demands efficiently in a challenging, fast-paced environment are required.
  • Ability to travel internationally is required.
