13.EXT/KMF/TEMP/13 – Laboratory Analyst (7 Posts)

a) Job Specification

Duties and responsibilities of the officer will entail;

  1. Identifying the chemical and consumables required for an experiment;
  2. Collecting and preparing samples and specimens, managing and safely disposing samples and specimens;
  3. Maintaining the inventory of laboratory equipment; 
  4. Carrying out experimental work;
  5. Undertaking analytical work; 
  6. Maintaining and preserving specimens and cultures; 
  7. Recording of experimental data; 
  8. Setting and maintaining laboratory equipment; 
  9. Maintaining laboratory records; and 
  10. Carrying out demonstrations of laboratory functions to clients/visitors.

b) Person Specification 

For appointment to this grade a candidate must have: -

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines; Applied Biology, Food technology, Analytical Chemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or equivalent from a recognized institution;
  2. Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum grade of C plus (C+) or equivalent;
  3. Proficiency in computer applications;

c) Key Competencies and Skills

  1. Communication skills
  2. Interpersonal skills
  3. Organizational skills
  4. Computer proficiency
