Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation established through the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979, which has since been amended to Science, Technology and Innovation Act 2013. The 1979 Act established KEMRI as a National body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect, process, label, store, and transport biological specimens in accordance with study protocols, laboratory SOPs, and Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) guidelines.
  • Maintain specimen inventory logs, laboratory tracking systems, and chain-of-custody documentation.
  • Conduct routine laboratory quality control and quality assurance procedures and document all findings appropriately.
  • Review laboratory data for completeness, accuracy, and consistency and resolve discrepancies in collaboration with study staff.
  • Monitor laboratory inventory and assist with forecasting, ordering, receiving, and tracking laboratory supplies and consumables.
  • Ensure compliance with biosafety, infection prevention, waste management, and occupational health procedures.
  • Participate in study meetings, protocol trainings, refresher trainings, and quality improvement activities.
  • Ensure compliance with study protocols, institutional policies, GCLP, GCP, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Perform any other study-related duties assigned by the Supervisor

Vacancy Requirements:

  • Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, or a related field. Mandatory
  • Registered with the regulatory Board-KMLLTB. Mandatory
  • Additional training in HIV testing or molecular diagnostics is an advantage. Added Advantage
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a laboratory technologist, preferably in a clinical or research setting. Mandatory
  • Familiarity with Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) and research protocols is a plus Mandatory
