Job Purpose
The Laundry Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the hospital laundry services to ensure the timely collection, processing, distribution, and storage of clean linen, uniforms, and other hospital textiles. The role ensures high standards of hygiene, efficiency, quality control, and inventory management while maintaining compliance with hospital procedures and infection prevention practices.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate all laundry operations, including sorting, washing, drying, ironing, folding, and distribution of hospital linen and uniforms.
- Ensure adequate availability of clean linen and textiles across all hospital departments.
- Monitor linen usage, inventory levels, and stock movement to minimize losses and wastage.
- Maintain accurate records of linen issuance, returns, damages, and replacements.
- Supervise laundry staff and allocate duties to ensure efficient workflow and productivity.
- Ensure laundry equipment is operated safely and maintained in good working condition.
- Report equipment faults and coordinate repairs and preventive maintenance activities.
- Implement quality control measures to ensure all linen meets cleanliness and hygiene standards.
- Monitor the proper handling and segregation of contaminated linen in accordance with hospital protocols.
- Train and mentor laundry staff on operational procedures, safety requirements, and quality standards.
- Manage laundry supplies including detergents, disinfectants, and other consumables to ensure continuous operations.
- Prepare periodic reports on laundry performance, inventory status, and operational requirements.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management, Operations Management, Business Administration, Environmental Health, or a related field.
- Diploma in Laundry Operations, Hospitality Management, Housekeeping, or a related discipline may be considered in addition to relevant supervisory experience.
- Minimum of three (3) years' experience in laundry, housekeeping, hospitality, or textile management operations.
- Previous supervisory experience in a healthcare facility, hotel, or institutional laundry setting is preferred.
- Experience managing staff, inventory, and operational workflows.
- Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices within healthcare settings is an added advantage (Preferred).
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong leadership and team supervision skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and basic computerized record-keeping systems.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Knowledge of laundry processes, textile care, and quality control standards.
- Ability to manage inventory and monitor resource utilization effectively.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high hygiene standards.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- High level of professionalism, accountability, and integrity.
