The Lead Finance will be responsible for preparing final accounts, assist heads of department develop budget and manage financial information sharing in liaison with the Head of Finance & Investments, oversee the day-to-day financial transactions comply with organizational policies, procedures and meet statutory requirements. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide timely input of financial data to ensure timely preparation of monthly financial statements for prompt decision making by the management. 
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and other reconciliations for the organization to ensure accuracy/correctness of financial statements and detect any errors that may have occurred  
  • Approval of credit notes and credit sales up to the authorized amounts 
  • Facilitate budget preparations and related projects 
  • Monitor and report on all departmental expenditure and income to ensure spending is within the budget and income raised is as per budget.  
  • Review payroll before approvals by Head of Finance and investments, and General Secretary, ensuring that payroll reports and reconciliations are accurate and that staff are paid on time as per policy.  
  • Process, remit and ensure compliance with statutory deduction/ taxes to government and relevant organizations. 
  • Check all payments (cash, cheques, RTGS and Mpesa bulk payments) to ensure accuracy and that all amounts are accounted for. 
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies and procedures to mitigate risk. For example, checking banking details, petty cash approvals, approval of credit limits and other journals. 
  • Provide schedules needed for audit and participate in all audit reviews to ensure that a true and fair report is given by the auditors. 
  • Cascade the Society’s annual goals and objectives to team members through the balanced score card, carrying out periodic performance reviews.  
  • Ensure development of team members through performance feedback, recommending training and where appropriate coach and mentor individuals for growth 

Minimum Requirements 

  • Degree in Finance/Accounting/Economics or a Business-related field 
  • CPA (K) or ACCA Finalist 

Desired Experience & Capabilities 

  • At least 5 years’ experience in accounting, 2 years at a Supervisory Level 
  • Proven track record of implementation of proper internal control systems 
  • Proven track record of implementation of local taxation rules 
  • Proven track record of implementation of IFRS and local Generally Accepted Accounting Policies. 
  • Computer literacy with knowledge in accounting software.
