Job Purpose:
The Lecturer in Clinical Psychology will be responsible for teaching, research, clinical supervision, and curriculum development in the field of Clinical Psychology. The role aims to equip students with theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and ethical grounding required to address mental health challenges in diverse contexts. The lecturer will contribute to the advancement of the department’s academic and research mission in compliance with the CUE standards and guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching & Supervision
- Deliver lectures and facilitate learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Clinical Psychology and related areas.
- Supervise student research projects, theses, and practicum placements.
- Evaluate and grade students’ academic performance in accordance with university policies.
- Curriculum Development
- Participate in the development and review of Clinical Psychology curricula, ensuring alignment with CUE standards and current best practices.
- Integrate relevant psychological assessment tools and therapeutic models into coursework.
- Research & Publication
- Conduct scholarly research in Clinical Psychology and related mental health fields.
- Publish in peer-reviewed academic journals and present findings at conferences.
- Contribute to collaborative and interdisciplinary research initiatives.
- Clinical Engagement & Practicum Support
- Provide supervision and mentorship during student practicum and internship placements.
- Maintain strong links with mental health institutions for training and partnership.
- Integrate clinical case studies and ethical considerations into teaching.
- Student Mentorship & Support
- Offer academic advising and mentorship to students.
- Promote professional ethics, self-awareness, and emotional competence among trainees.
- Institutional Service
- Participate in departmental meetings, university committees & community outreach programs.
- Contribute to strategic planning, quality assurance, and program accreditation processes.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A PhD in Clinical Psychology or a closely related discipline from a recognized university.
- At least three (3) years of teaching or professional clinical experience at a recognized institution.
- Registered or eligible for registration with a relevant professional body such as the Kenya Counselling and Psychological Association (KCPA), Kenya Psychological Association (KPA), or Clinical Psychologists Association of Kenya.
- Demonstrated research and publication record in the field of Clinical Psychology.
- Knowledge and experience in therapeutic techniques, mental health diagnostics, and case management.
Key Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of clinical theory, assessment, diagnosis, and intervention strategies.
- Familiarity with ethical and legal frameworks in psychological practice.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to the integration of academic excellence and professional ethics.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- A committed born-again evangelical Christian.
