Responsibilities or duties

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail;

  • Filling Contracts and court documents;
  • Serving legal documents to clients and other stakeholders;
  • Maintaining an up-to-date court file registry to ensure the safe custody of the files;
  • Responding to inquiries regarding specific cases;
  • Bringing up files to the relevant officer for briefing and action;
  • Preparing accurate quarterly reports on cases where actions have been taken;
  • Receiving, compiling and organizing information for the preparation of pleadings with necessary annexure;
  • Preparing, certifying, serving and follow up processing of judgement, orders findings and recommendations, decrees and warrants;
  • Monitoring progress of contracts and court cases; and
  • Maintaining and updating court case diary.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

For appointments to this grade, a candidate must have;

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education mean grade C plain;
  • Diploma in legal studies from a recognized institution;
  • Certificate in Records Management;
  • Certificate in Computer Application skills; and
  • Shown merits and ability as reflected in work performance and result.

Experience needed

At least six (6) years’ cumulative work experience, three (3) of which should have been at the grade of Legal Clerk II or in a comparable position in the Private or the Public Sector;

Remuneration will be in accordance with NLAS Salary Scale;

Salary Scale: Ksh. 68,500 x 5,000 – 73,500 x 5,000 – 78,500 x 5,000 – 83,500 x 5,000 – 88,500 x 5,000 – 93,500 x 5,000 – 98,500 x 5,000 – 103,500 p.m.

NOTE: NLAS Grades 1, 2 & 3 are on a three-years contract basis, renewable once while the rest are on permanent and pensionable terms

Successful candidates MUST satisfy the requirements of Leadership and Integrity as set out in Chapter six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya and shall be required to present the following documents before being issued with an offer letter;

  • Clearance from Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission;
  • Tax Compliance Certificate from Kenya Revenue Authority;
  • Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations;
  • Certificate of Clearance from Credit Reference Bureau; and
  • Clearance Certificate from Higher Education Loans Board or proof of ongoing repayments.
