Job Description

Sector: Banking & Financial Services

Function: Group Shared Services | Controls & Governance

Department: Exceptions & Matching Management

Reporting To: Senior Manager / Head – Digital Exceptions & Matching

Role Purpose

The Manager – Digital Matching & Exceptions Management is responsible for overseeing end-to-end reconciliation, digital matching, and exception management processes across banking products and accounts. The role ensures timely identification and resolution of breaks, mitigates operational and financial risk, prevents fraud and leakage, and strengthens control frameworks through data-driven insights and automation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily and periodic reconciliations across settlement, GL, suspense, and operational accounts.
  • Manage automated and manual digital matching processes to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve reconciliation breaks including over/under payments and unmatched items.
  • Monitor exception aging, ensure SLA adherence, and escalate high-risk or overdue items.
  • Drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions to prevent recurrence of exceptions.
  • Ensure timely and accurate settlements by coordinating with Operations, Finance, and Technology teams.
  • Prepare exception reports, dashboards, and MIS for senior management.
  • Use reconciliation data to generate insights, trends, and risk indicators.
  • Support audits by providing reconciliations, explanations, and remediation evidence.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, standardization, and automation of reconciliation and matching activities.

Requirements

Experience & Skills

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in reconciliation, exception management, or financial operations.
  • Experience within banking, shared services, or financial services environments.
  • Exposure to finance, accounting, and data analysis is preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of reconciliations, settlements, and GL processes.
  • Experience with reconciliation systems and digital matching tools.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
  • Risk and control mindset with high attention to detail.
  • Effective stakeholder communication and issue-resolution skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field (Finance, Accounting, Commerce, or equivalent).
  • Professional qualifications in Accounting or Data Analytics are an advantage.

Success Measures

  • Timely and accurate completion of reconciliations.
  • Reduction in outstanding and aged exceptions.
  • Improved digital matching and automation rates.
  • Strengthened control environment and positive audit outcomes.
  • High stakeholder satisfaction and effective issue resolution.
