Background

The East African Wild Life Society (EAWLS) is a leading regional conservation organization dedicated to the protection of wildlife and the environment in East Africa. EAWLS works through advocacy, conservation programs, and public awareness to ensure the survival of the region's natural heritage.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement policy advocacy strategies to influence conservation policies at national and regional levels.
  • Manage and oversee the execution of EAWLS conservation programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Lead and mentor a team of program officers and advocacy specialists.
  • Monitor and evaluate program performance, impact, and financial sustainability.
  • Contribute to fundraising efforts and resource mobilization for EAWLS programs.
  • Represent EAWLS in relevant forums, conferences, and meetings.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Environmental Science, Conservation Biology, Public Policy, Law, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in policy advocacy and program management, preferably within the conservation or environmental sector.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing successful advocacy campaigns.
  • Strong understanding of environmental and conservation issues in East Africa.
  • Excellent leadership, management, and team-building skills.
  • Proven ability to engage with and influence policymakers and stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in English and Swahili is an asset.

Experience

Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in policy advocacy and program management, preferably within the conservation or environmental sector.
