Verst Carbon Limited is recruiting short-term consultants and field personnel for a nature-based project in Kenya. These are part-time, assignment-based engagements, with roles expected to commence at various points between September and December 2026
3. Marine Site Lead – Blue Carbon
Role Overview: The Marine Site Lead specializes in the assessment of coastal and marine ecosystems (mangroves, seagrasses, and salt marshes) to quantify "Blue Carbon" stocks and sequestration rates.
Key Responsibilities:
Blue Carbon Sampling: Lead the collection of sediment cores for soil organic carbon (SOC) analysis and measure above-ground/ below-ground biomass in intertidal zones.
Ecosystem Mapping: Oversee the mapping of marine habitat extent using a combination of satellite imagery and ground-truthing transects.
Sediment Analysis Protocol: Ensure proper handling, storage, and preparation of sediment samples for laboratory analysis (Loss on Ignition, bulk density, carbon content).
Tidal Zone Safety: Enforce strict safety protocols for operations in tidal zones, including navigation, weather monitoring, and use of small watercraft.
Biodiversity Assessment: Collaborate with ecologists to record species diversity and assess the ecological integrity of the marine ecosystem.
MRV Alignment: Ensure data collection methods are aligned with the IPCC Wetlands Supplement for Greenhouse Gas Inventories.
