Background

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading international non-governmental organization, working in over 30 countries to protect, empower and build resilience among displaced populations and communities affected by conflict and disaster.

About the Role

The Meal Assistant will be responsible for assisting in the preparation and serving of meals to beneficiaries, ensuring hygiene standards are maintained, and supporting the overall functioning of the meal program.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the daily preparation of meals according to established menus and dietary guidelines.
  • Ensure all cooking and serving areas are kept clean and hygienic at all times.
  • Monitor food supplies and report any shortages to the supervisor.
  • Serve meals to beneficiaries in an organized and respectful manner.
  • Adhere to all safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Support in inventory management of food items and kitchen supplies.
  • Assist in receiving and storing food deliveries.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a kitchen or food service environment is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of basic food hygiene and safety practices.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Good physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift moderate weight.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.

Experience

Previous experience in a similar role is preferred but not essential. On-the-job training will be provided.

Additional Information

This is a local position and only Kenyan nationals are eligible to apply.
