Our client, a power infrastructure company, is seeking a mechanical technician to be based in Kenya.

THE JOB

The ideal candidate will be responsible for effectively implementing preventive, condition based and breakdown maintenance at the plant for all mechanical machines, equipment and plant facilities for maximum efficiency and reliability.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

  • Assist in start-up, shut-down and normal operations of the power plant systems.
  • Complete and maintain all logs and running records in a clear and concise manner according to guidelines.
  • Responsible for taking corrective action during system operational disturbance and/or bringing such disturbances to the attention of the Operations and Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Effectively communicate the condition of the plant equipment and performance to shift charge and fellow plant personnel.
  • Responsible for maintaining the plant in a clean and safe condition at all times.
  • Perform emergency procedures in order to protect personnel and equipment in case of damage or failure of safety deficiencies.
  • Diagnosing faults and ensuring timely repairs of factory machines and equipment with minimal or no downtime
  • Support planning of new projects and installations
  • Utilize all tools, equipment, and accessories in such a manner so as to maximize useful operating life.
  • Perform planned and corrective maintenance, emergency and preventive as directed and as needed and account for all parts and materials, supplies and fluids used in the performance of that work.
  • To develop and maintain tools, test fixtures and documentation

Health and Safety

  • Responsible for the safe and economic operation and maintenance of the plant during the designated shift.
  • 100% adherence with OSHA requirements to ensure safety
  • To comply with all safety regulations including isolation, lock out and tag out.

QUALIFICATIONS

The job holder should have the following qualifications.

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in operation and/or maintenance of a power plant
  • OSHA certification
  • Lube oil training certification
  • Firefighting and first aid certification
  • Fire marshal certification

THE RIGHT PERSON FOR THE JOB

The ideal candidate should possess the following skills and competencies.

  • Ability to read schematics and manuals
  • Ability to troubleshoot, repair or replace all components in the plant Machinery and equipment.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Manual and physical dexterity.
  • Ability to follow verbal or written directions
  • Ability to carry out thorough and safe housekeeping procedures
  • Ability to work from construction drawings and sketches.
  • Ability to work without constant and direct supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks if required.

WHAT WE ARE OFFERING THE RIGHT PERSON

We are offering the successful candidate a monthly basic salary ranging from KES 60,000 – KES 120,000
