Medical Officer

About the Hospital:
Guru Nanak Ramgharia Sikh Hospital is a 52-bed level 4 private hospital committed to delivering quality, compassionate, and accessible healthcare. We are seeking an experienced Medical Officer to join our team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Admitting patients requiring special care followed by investigations and treatment.
  • Examining and talking to patients to diagnose their medical conditions.
  • Making notes and preparing paperwork, both as a legal record of treatment and for the benefit of other healthcare professionals.
  • Keeping the referring/admitting doctor informed of inpatient and outpatient progress.
  • Issuing a discharge or transfer summary to each patient prior to them leaving hospital, in accordance with service specifications.
  • Maintaining patient rights and be aware of cultural differences when dealing with patients.
  • Liaising with other medical and non-medical staff in the hospital to ensure quality treatment.
  • Reporting on-call (off shifts, weekends and holidays) as scheduled.
  • Ensuring that comprehensive hospital medical records for all in and outpatients are accurately done.
  • Providing educational and clinical experience for clinical staff.
  • Ensuring adequate follow up of chronic patients
  • Ensure patient information in your patient register is correct and up to date to ensure all claims are collected appropriately.
  • Ensuring all patient services undertaken are charged out in accordance with appropriate protocols.
  • Complying with established health and safety policies with regards to handling of instruments, storage of drugs and disposal of sharps and other potentially dangerous equipment and substances.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree in Medicine and Surgery with a minimum of 3 years’ experience.
  • Must be registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board and hold a valid practising license.

Key Competencies:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Computer literacy, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize and work both collaboratively and independently to meet deadlines
  • Ability to collaborate with and influence individuals at all levels of the hospital.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure use of standard operating procedures, protocols and guidelines in management of patients is followed.
  • Preoperational review, management and preparation of patients scheduled for theatre.
  • Administer anaesthesia/sedation to patients with special needs undergoing radiology investigations
  • Assist in management of very sick patients in the Intensive Care and High Dependency Units when called upon e.g. patients who need urgent resuscitation and intubation.
  • Be part of the emergency trauma team and called upon in case of an accident with mass casualties.
  • Ensure all medication, equipment and supplies required for anaesthesia are ordered in good time.
  • Ensure the anaesthetic machine and operating table are well maintained and report any fault, need for repair or maintenance in good time.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all anaesthetic procedures and condition of the patient including vital signs and medication given.
  • Request and interpret laboratory investigations for patients going to theatre for surgery.
  • Cannulate patients in the wards and the emergency care unit.
  • Facilitate transfers and referral of critically ill patients to other facilities.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery.
  • Higher diploma in Anaesthesia.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience.
  • Registered by the Kenya Clinical Officers Council.
  • Possession a valid practice license.

  • Must have strong work ethics
  • Patient friendly.
  • Ability to multitask
  • Flexibility to adapt to all situations and work varied hours; possibly work weekends or evenings.
