Outspan Hospital started operations with the establishment of an Out Patient Department on August 7, 2001. A month later, the In Patient Department was opened with a capacity of 21 beds.
Responsibilities or duties
Job Purpose
The Medical Officer will be responsible for providing high-quality clinical care to patients, participating in multidisciplinary patient management, supporting teaching and training activities, and contributing to the hospital’s mission of delivering sustainable excellent holistic healthcare services.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose, treat, and manage patients in outpatient, inpatient, emergency, and specialized care settings.
- Develop and implement appropriate treatment plans in accordance with established clinical guidelines and best practices.
- Perform medical procedures within the scope of practice and competence.
- Participate in ward rounds, clinical audits, mortality and morbidity reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records and clinical documentation.
- Collaborate effectively with consultants, nurses, allied health professionals, and other healthcare workers in patient management.
- Provide health education and counseling to patients and their families.
- Participate in emergency call duties, outreach programs, and community health initiatives as assigned.
- Support the training and mentorship of medical students, interns, and other healthcare trainees.
- Contribute to research, innovation, and evidence-based clinical practice.
- Adhere to professional, ethical, legal, and regulatory standards governing medical practice.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Registered and licensed by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
- Valid practicing license.
- Completion of internship training.
- At least one (1) year of post-internship clinical experience will be an added advantage.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) will be an added advantage.
