Selected Responsibilities/Activities
- National Urban Policies In order to advance the PLGS work of the NUP programme, the consultant will contribute to develop capacity building tools for policy makers and stakeholders to steer digital transformation in NUP / Sub-national Urban Policies (SUPs).
The specific tasks will include:
- Analyze data, conduct case studies, and finalize the guide on the risk management in NUP
- Develop materials for capacity building and/or e-learning tools to ease the understanding and implementation of the risk management in NUP
- Start the preparation stage of the urban/metropolitan innovative interventions at the territorial level, integrating smart cities for NUP SUPERVISION The consultant will be part of, and work with the Policy, Legislation and Governance (PLGS) team in UN-Habitat, reporting to the Chief of PLGS and the Director of the Global Solution Division.
Qualifications/special skills
- Advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in urban or territorial/regional planning, sustainable urban development, land use planning, urban policy or political science with a focus on urban affairs, or other related fields.
- A first-level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- At least four (4) years of work experience in urban policies, urban-rural linkages, territorial development, or related fields is required.
- Experience in operational activities and research and/or policy development work on urban-rural linkages in developing countries; with strong preference for experience in the African context is required. Experience in international organizations and knowledge of UN activities and its current programmes is desirable.
- The applicant must have excellent communication and technical writing skills and be capable of working in a multicultural environment. Computer skills: Basic knowledge of office software, e.g. Microsoft Office; other software for carrying out research and analysis is an advantage.
