Nutrition Sensitive Agriculture Specialists (2 positions)
Organizational Setting
The position is located in the FAO Representation in Kenya.

Reporting Lines
The Nutrition Sensitive Agriculture Specialists will work under the overall guidance of the Assistant FAO Representative in charge of Programmes in FAO Kenya, and the direct supervision of the Nutritionist | Co – Lead Enabling Policy and Investment environment sub programme and in close collaboration with the agriculture and health ministries at county level.

Technical Focus
The nutrition specialists will contribute to the implementation of the National Food and Nutrition Security Policy, the National and County Nutrition Action Plans and the agri_nutrition implementation strategy. Specifically, they will support nutrition mainstreaming in FAO Kenya projects.

Tasks and responsibilities
Specifically, the specialists will undertake the following tasks:
1. Nutrition Support to FAOKE EUTF - Enhancing self-reliance for refugees and host communities in Turkana, Kenya (UNJP/KEN/095/EC) including;
i. Supporting development of nutrition messages and Information, Education and Communication materials (IEC) using existing resources materials, to inform social behaviour change communication initiatives
ii. Support towards refresher trainings on agri-nutrition targeted at community based facilitators
iii. Technical backstopping on community level agri-nutrition trainings in Turkana County
iv. Support establishment of healthy facilities, schools and County HQ vegetable demo - plots
2. Support activities under the Livestock Programming for Nutritional Improvements in Children Under 5 Years in Marsabit county including;
i. Planning for Scientific Conference
ii. Joint monitoring activities in Marsabit County
iii. Documentation of success stories
iv. Contribute to development of Concept notes and proposals for activities to be up scaled
3. Support nutrition activities under the Small-Scale Irrigation and Value Addition Project (SIVAP)
i. Planning and facilitating County trainings on Nutrition Sensitive Agriculture and Food Systems
ii. Joint monitoring activities with the Project Coordinating Unit of the SIVAP
4. Represent FAO in national coordination and technical mechanisms aimed at generating nutrition information including the Nutrition Information Technical Working Group (NITWG), Kenya Food Security Steering Group (KFSSG) amongst others
5. Nutrition technical support towards national biannual food and nutrition security assessments
6. Support coordination activities with key line ministries and other stakeholders by actively representing FAO in key coordination forums at county level;
7. Support monitoring and evaluation of nutrition sensitive agriculture initiatives at County level
8. Support towards resource mobilization
9. Perform other related duties, as required.

Minimum Requirements
• University degree in Food, Nutrition and Dietetics; Food Science or related courses.
• 3 years’ experience implementing nutrition sensitive agriculture projects, coordinating multiple stakeholders, budgeting and organizing training workshops
• Nutritionist should be registered with the Kenya Nutritionists and Dietetics Institute (KNDI)
• Working knowledge of English and Kiswahili
• National of Kenya or resident in the country with a regular work permit.

• Extent and relevance of experience in implementing projects with a trials for improved practices component will be an added advantage

• Familiarity with national and county level nutrition situation
