Scope:

The Partner, Value Creation is a senior, hands-on operator who owns post-investment value creation across the portfolio of healthcare manufacturers, including pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, medical devices and consumables. . The Partner works closely with the Partner, Health and 500 Global’s regional and impact investment partners to align portfolio value creation plans with investment objectives and impact priorities. Working directly with portfolio company CEOs and management teams, this person drives operational scaling and turnaround: plant and manufacturing economics, P&L and balance sheet performance, regulatory and licensing execution, supply chain, and commercial growth. This is an operating role, not an investing role. We are looking for someone who has run healthcare manufacturing businesses and can credibly advise CEOs from experience on the factory floor and in the boardroom.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead the 100-day plan at close for every portfolio company and own the value creation plan through to exit, holding management accountable to agreed milestones and KPIs.
  • Work hands-on with portfolio CEOs on manufacturing economics and plant performance: capacity utilization, yield and waste reduction, operational efficiency, quality systems and cost of goods.
  • Drive regulatory and licensing execution, including GMP upgrades, national registrations, WHO prequalification pathways and plant certifications, working with regulators and specialist advisors.
  • Strengthen supply chain and procurement: input sourcing, inventory and working-capital management, and FX exposure.
  • Accelerate commercial growth: convert government, multilateral and private procurement into recurring revenue, build distribution, and support multi-market expansion.
  • Build and upgrade management teams: assess capability gaps, support key hires (COO, plant, quality, commercial) and strengthen board effectiveness; take board or committee seats where appropriate.
  • Support pre-investment diligence on operations and plant economics in partnership with the Partner, Health, and shape the operational thesis for each deal.
  • Establish portfolio monitoring, including KPI dashboards, operating reviews and reporting to the Investment Committee and LPs.
  • Prepare portfolio companies for exit, including operational readiness, governance and reporting quality.
  • Build and manage a bench of operating advisors, consultants and service providers to support the portfolio.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of senior operating leadership in healthcare, pharmaceutical, or medical manufacturing, including C-suite or general management roles (e.g., CEO, COO, Managing Director, Chief Commercial Officer / CRO).
  • Direct P&L and balance sheet ownership of a manufacturing business or business unit.
  • Hands-on track record improving plant operations, efficiency, waste reduction, quality, and factory-floor economics, with measurable results.
  • Experience leading regulatory and licensing approval processes for manufactured health products.
  • Proven track record scaling a business in Africa: revenue growth, market expansion, and team build-out.
  • Based in Africa, with experience operating across multiple African markets.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Leadership experience at a leading African manufacturer or the African subsidiary of a global pharmaceutical or medical products multinational.
  • Experience converting government or multilateral procurement (tenders, pooled procurement) into recurring revenue.
  • Turnaround or rapid-scaling experience in a resource-constrained environment.
  • Board experience, or exposure to working with PE- or DFI-backed companies.
  • Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or operational excellence certification.
  • Additional proficiency in French or Arabic a bonus.
  • Advanced degree in engineering, pharmacy, life sciences, or business.
