LOCATION: BUSIA
Overall Responsibility
To provide comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures through all perioperative phases. The Perioperative Nurse ensures patient safety, upholds infection prevention standards, and collaborates with the surgical team to achieve optimal outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough assessments and prepare patients for surgery.
- Ensure all pre-operative documentation and consent forms are completed.
- Provide emotional support and health education to patients and families.
- Coordinate with the surgical team for patient-specific preparation and planning.
- Prepare and maintain the sterile field and ensure adherence to aseptic techniques.
- Function as a scrub nurse or circulating nurse during surgery.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and pass instruments efficiently.
- Monitor the patient’s condition and vital signs during procedures.
- Perform instrument, sponge, and sharps counts to maintain safety.
- Receive and monitor patients in the recovery room.
- Manage post-operative pain, bleeding, and other complications.
- Document care provided and communicate effectively with relevant departments.
- Educate patients and caregivers on post-operative care and discharge plans.
Job Qualifications & Skills
- Kenya Registered Nurse or equivalent basic nursing qualification.
- Higher Diploma in Perioperative Nursing from a recognized institution (mandatory).
- Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya and holding a valid practice license.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
