Job Description

CrossBoundary (CB) is currently seeking to engage with qualified investment professionals to join our Africa team to identify and mobilize high-impact investment opportunities that catalyze private sector growth throughout Africa. This role will focus on sourcing investment opportunities, overseeing commercial due diligence, and conducting market studies, regularly in partnership with leading private equity (PE) and development finance institutions (DFIs) across the region. Principals also contribute to regional business development and grow the business activities of CrossBoundary in the Africa region, including originating transactions and projects.

Primary Responsibilities

Market Engagement & Transaction Sourcing

  • Build and maintain a strong network of contacts in public and private sectors to facilitate deal sourcing
  • Serve as the principal point of contact in prospecting the market and building a pipeline of deals
  • Monitor policy or legislation changes affecting transactions

Due Diligence & Transaction Execution

  • Conduct comprehensive analyses of new investments
  • Evaluate financial, technical, legal, and political feasibility
  • Work with robust, multi-faceted corporate and project finance models, including valuations, of private companies using rigorous, defensible methodologies
  • Support negotiations on investment terms
  • Provide recommendations on optimal transaction structures based upon company strategic objectives
  • Investor identification and relationship building
  • Understand investor mandates, criteria, preferences, and existing portfolios
  • Develop and manage investor relationships
  • Contribute to business development across multiple channels
  • Represent the firm at regional investment forums and stakeholder convenings to expand visibility and build strategic partnerships
  • Contribute to shaping the firm’s growth strategy in Africa by identifying emerging sectors, geographies, and client segments with strong potential for impact and commercial returns

Qualifications & Experience

Experience and Skills:

  • 8+ years of relevant work experience in investment banking, private equity, development finance, financial advisory, or related fields
  • Expertise in project structuring, corporate and project finance, and financial modeling
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • Demonstrated experience working independently with minimal supervision
  • Existing network of professional contacts in frontier markets preferred
  • Knowledge of the investment landscape in African markets

Additional Advantages:

  • Experience in emerging markets and familiarity with development finance
  • Experience in international markets, with preference for an existing network of professional contacts in respective regions
