Background

Kentaste was established to provide smallholders farmers with a reliable, fair income from the millions of coconut trees growing along Kenya’s coast. For many years, the crop was neglected with farmers having no option other than selling through informal markets. When we introduced our value add processing, farmers realized that their coconut trees could become a sustainable source of income for their households.

Job Summary

The Production Supervisor will oversee the daily operations of our coconut products manufacturing plant. This role requires a proactive leader with strong organizational skills and a deep understanding of production processes. The ideal candidate will ensure that production runs smoothly, efficiently, and safely while maintaining the highest standards of product quality.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervision and Leadership:

  • Oversee and manage a team of production workers, including training, scheduling, and performance evaluation.
  • Ensure team adherence to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.

Production Management:

  • Plan, coordinate, and control manufacturing processes to ensure products are produced on time and meet quality standards.
  • Monitor production schedules, adjust workflows, and manage resources effectively to meet production targets.
  • Implement and maintain effective production tracking systems.

Quality Control:

  • Ensure that all products meet the company's quality standards and specifications.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of the production process and equipment.
  • Identify and address any issues that could affect product quality.

Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement changes to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Work closely with the Production Manager and other departments to develop and implement best practice

Health and Safety:

  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment by enforcing safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct safety training and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate production records and prepare regular reports on production performance.
  • Document and report any incidents, issues, or changes in production processes.

Qualifications:

Skills:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Production Management, Industrial Engineering, Food Technology, or a related field. Relevant experience may substitute for formal education.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a supervisory role within a manufacturing environment, preferably in the food industry.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality control principles.
  • Proficiency in using production management software and tools.
  • Good understanding of health and safety regulations.

Personal Attributes:

  • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and accuracy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive, with a strong sense of initiative and responsibility.

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Adherence to production schedules above 95%
  • Non-conformities to SOP's and product standards
