Background

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading environmental authority in the United Nations system. It sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the UN system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

This internship offers an opportunity to gain practical experience in environmental communications and sustainable mobility within a dynamic international organization. The intern will support various communication and programme activities, contributing to UNEP's mission.

Responsibilities

The Programme Support Intern will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Assisting in the development and dissemination of communication materials (e.g., press releases, social media content, website updates).
  • Supporting the organization of events, workshops, and meetings related to environmental communications and sustainable mobility.
  • Conducting research on relevant environmental issues and sustainable mobility trends.
  • Providing administrative support to the team, including scheduling, note-taking, and document management.
  • Contributing to the monitoring and evaluation of communication campaigns.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To qualify for this internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a degree programme in a university or equivalent institution in a field related to environmental science, communications, public relations, international relations, sustainable development, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated interest in environmental issues and sustainable mobility.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Experience

No prior professional experience is required for this internship. However, any relevant volunteer experience or academic projects related to communications or environmental issues will be considered an asset.

Additional Information

This is a full-time internship position. The duration of the internship will be for a period of six months. Interns are expected to work 5 days a week.
